Between honesty and harmony

Illustration of a turtle peeking out of its shell, thinking of a heart and a speech bubble

Have you ever stood at the crossroads between honesty and harmony, wondering which way to wobble?

If so, you’re not alone.

Most of us love honesty, right up until the moment we’re asked to provide it.

We want honest friends, honest conversations, and honest relationships.

Until life quietly hands us the microphone.

Then we worry.

Will I hurt someone?
Create conflict?
Seem selfish or ungrateful?

Sometimes we don’t even know the whole truth ourselves. We only know that something inside feels a little wobbly.

So we explain.
Justify.
Analyse.

Meanwhile, the truth waits patiently to be invited into the conversation.

Listening asks us to make space for another’s experience.
Honesty asks us to make space for our own.

Connection needs both.

Perhaps courage is simply the willingness to gently peek out from our shell and let ourselves be seen.

What helps you choose honesty when it feels risky? I’d love to hear.
